I had trialed with Border Collies previously always thinking that I needed that type of dog to get anywhere in dog sports. Well I was wrong! One day I was driving along in a country town when we saw a man who was giving away his last puppy. A Jack Russell x Fox Terrier. Breeds I knew nothing about but I thought if I could handle a Border Collie, this little dog should be easy. We took him home and I got to work on training. This year will be our third year competing in Earthdog and we are hoping to gain our Master's title and start working towards our champion title. We also dabble in some other sports like agility, obedience, rally, lure coursing and we’ve just started scent work! Through this dog sport journey, we found out that Thunder has a Luxating Patella. A common genetic condition in little dogs but something that could end his career and need thousands of dollars of surgery. We spoke to our team of vets and they said they were happy for me to manage his rehab before considering surgery. I did so much research into supplements and hydrotherapy. Since that appointment 2 years ago we started his weekly swimming lesson plus his daily Antinol and we have had zero limping or pain! There was a point we thought we would have to give up all our sports, but this little dog is strong!
